What are detailing, polishing and ceramic coating?
Detailing is more than washing: paint, interior and details are brought back to the best condition they can reach, part by part, and then protected. The order is always the same: clean first, correct where needed, then protect.
Polishing
Polishing uses a machine and a polishing compound to remove a very thin layer of clear coat, so the surface becomes level again and shines evenly. It also removes swirls, the fine car-wash scratches you see in sunlight. Because material is removed, polishing cannot be repeated endlessly.
Paint correction
Paint correction is polishing in several stages: a coarser compound first for deeper scratches and oxidation, then progressively finer stages. If you can feel a scratch with a fingernail it runs through the clear coat and can only be touched in or resprayed. Motodam assesses the paint beforehand and says honestly what will and will not come out.
Ceramic coating
A ceramic coating cures into a hard, glass-like layer that repels water and dirt, so washing is quicker and less abrasive. Where wax lasts weeks and a sealant months, a coating lasts years with proper maintenance. It does not make paint scratch-proof, and whatever sits underneath is sealed in: the paint has to be clean and corrected first.
Detailing a motorcycle
A motorcycle is a collection of small surfaces at every possible angle: paint, chrome, anodised aluminium, rubber and bare metal side by side, each needing its own product. Chain, brake calipers and spokes are full of grease and brake dust in places a cloth cannot reach. That is why a motorcycle is priced on labour time rather than on surface area.

Frequently asked questions about detailing and ceramic coating
How long does a ceramic coating last?
With hand washing and pH-neutral shampoo a coating lasts years. A vehicle kept outside that regularly goes through an automatic car wash loses its water-repellent behaviour faster. Motodam tells you beforehand what you can realistically expect for your use.
Does the paint have to be polished before the coating goes on?
In most cases yes. A coating locks the paint in as it is at that moment: swirls and dullness stay visible for as long as the coating is on. Only nearly new or already corrected paint can skip it; that is assessed beforehand.
Can I use an automatic car wash with a ceramic coating?
You can, but it is not wise: rolling brushes cause exactly the fine scratches you had polished out. Hand washing with a pH-neutral shampoo keeps a coating in good shape longest. If that is not possible now and then, choose a touchless wash.
Can a motorcycle have a ceramic coating too?
Yes. Painted panels, fairings, wheels and most plastic and metal parts can be coated. Exactly those hard-to-reach corners then stay cleaner. What can and cannot be done per motorcycle is checked beforehand.
How long will my vehicle be with you?
A regular treatment is usually finished within half a day, a thorough clean takes a full day. If polishing or a coating goes on top, count on several days: the coating has to cure dry and indoors. When the appointment is scheduled you hear in advance how many days it takes.
Is it worth having my vehicle detailed before selling it?
Usually yes: a clean vehicle photographs better, draws more responses and sells faster. A thorough clean with polishing where it is genuinely visible normally pays for itself; a full paint correction right before a sale rarely does. Motodam advises honestly what is worth it for your vehicle.
